Biggie Smalls was the cat who changed everything for us. At a staggering 43.2 lbs, he arrived through a shelter transfer as the largest cat we had ever fostered. His size came with serious health risks, but also with an unforgettable personality that instantly captured our hearts.

Caring for Biggie and watching him transform through patience, love, and a structured weight-loss plan was nothing short of life-changing. His journey inspired us to close our old rescue and open The Big House Sanctuary and Rehab, a place dedicated entirely to cats like him: the ones who need a second chance, a safe space, and a path back to health.

Biggie’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the power of change. He reminded us that even the biggest challenges can be overcome and that sometimes, the biggest cats leave the biggest pawprints on our lives.

Before
At 7 years old, Biggie Smalls was surrendered to the Pro Anima Shelter in Quebec weighing 43.2 lbs. His organs were being pushed out of place, his heart was working overtime, and even walking was a challenge. But through it all, he remained endlessly loving (even when a little hangry). With a mix of physical therapy, diet changes, and determination, he went on to lose his first 17 lbs, starting the journey that would inspire The Big House.
After
Today, Biggie Smalls is thriving as The Big House’s official ambassador! Still working on the last 5-10 lbs of his journey, he’s proof that slow and steady wins the race. Biggie loves people, showing off his sass, and even modeling for our charity calendar (like this photo). As a forever resident, he helps new arrivals feel safe and at home and as part of our family, he enjoys long naps, tasty snacks, and cozy blanket time. Biggie isn’t just our chonky inspiration, he’s the heart of The Big House.
